There is much to learn on decay and renewal. Low-level radioactive materials in Hagerman, ID, were packed over time into the remains of prehistoric creatures such as the Hagerman horse, Equus simplicidens, resulting in highly radioactive fossils. The native sunflowers in the area, however, are not harmed by these radioactive materials and draw them into their leaves and stems. Because of this ability, sunflowers are now used in cleaning areas of nuclear meltdown. But long before this human-adopted use, these blooms were sequestering harmful materials away. Sequestered In Bloom is proof that beauty, healing, and decay are a natural combination worth valuing.
