By combining prehistoric North American species with modern-day flora, the goal of The North American Megafauna Project by Beastie and Bone aims to help inhabitants of the United States view their backyards, local parks, and nearby conservation areas with new appreciation. We no longer have the spike-toothed salmon, dire wolf, or saber-tooth cat. But we have Sockeye salmon, red wolves, and Florida panthers. They and hundreds of other species walking the same continent those prehistoric creatures once did are endangered now not due to cycles of nature, but human-made change. If we don't take care of these species and their habitat, they very well may become as alien and distant to us as megafauna is now.
