A Singular Violence Limited Edition Linocut Print

$60.00

Based off the fifth paper art original artwork of the Beastie and Bone North American Megafauna Project, A Singular Violence depicts the skull of Aenocyon dirus (more popularly known as the direwolf) with modern day Fire Pinks bursting forth from its bone-crushing jaws. A Singular Violence represents the southeast of the United States, where the Fire Pink is endangered in several states, and fossils of the direwolf have been found in great numbers, particularly in Florida.

Though not a true wolf, the direwolf is similar in appearance to another modern-day species that is struggling to avoid joining this prehistoric species in extinction: the Red Wolf. Currently the most endangered canid in the world, the Red Wolf is limited now to only a couple of breeding pairs in the wild in North Carolina.

A Singular Violence is limited to 50 hand-pulled prints on 17"x11” bleached renewable mulberry paper printed with water-based ink.

Each one is signed and numbered by the artist, and sold with a certificate of authenticity.

This linocut print is part of Beastie and Bone’s North American Megafauna Project, which is an exploration of ancient extinct species from throughout the North American continent that pairs their remains with common modern day flora of the areas they once lived in. Integrating these past animals back into the landscapes we encounter today in this manner, instead of presenting them as sterile fossil specimens, encourages us to look differently at the shrinking wild spaces around us, and what else may soon no longer be found there unless conservation efforts are supported.
