Skybreaker Limited Edition Linocut Print

$60.00

Intertwining the skull of extinct Aiolornis incredibilis with a branch of time-worn Bristlecone Pine, Skybreaker ties together the ancient past of the American southwest and a massive species of bird that likely inspired legends of the thunderbird, with a hardy plant that has survived into the modern day. The approximately 18’ wingspan of A. incredibilis may no longer float far above the deserts and craggy mountains of California and Nevada, but the currently-endangered ancestor of that prehistoric teratorn, the California condor, may yet do so for years to come if conservation efforts in the area are successful.

This linocut print is part of Beastie and Bone’s North American Megafauna Project, which is an exploration of ancient extinct species from throughout the North American continent that pairs their remains with common modern day flora of the areas they once lived in. Integrating these past animals back into the landscapes we encounter today in this manner, instead of presenting them as sterile fossil specimens, encourages us to look differently at the shrinking wild spaces around us, and what else may soon no longer be found there unless conservation efforts are supported.

Skybreaker is limited to 50 hand-pulled prints on 11"x17" bleached renewable mulberry paper printed with water-based ink. Each one is signed and numbered by the artist, and sold with a certificate of authenticity.
